Salou inaugurates the first smart swimming pool in Cataluña with nagi smartpool
Salou becomes the first municipality in Cataluña to inaugurate a smart swimming pool equipped with nagi smartpool technology, an innovative system that enhances water safety, facility management and the overall user experience.
The official presentation took place at the municipal swimming pool and was attended by the Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, who highlighted the strategic value of the project for the municipality:
“For Salou, these agreements are very interesting as they reinforce a strategic line focused on the intelligent and efficient management of tourism resources through the use of new technologies and digitalisation.”
The implemented solution includes nagiGuard, an advanced drowning prevention system that supports lifeguards through real-time alerts. By means of a device integrated into users’ goggles or swim caps and a network of sensors installed throughout the pool, nagi smartpool enables the detection of risk situations and the real-time analysis of aquatic activity.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Director of the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) and Director of the Youth Sports Foundation, Aitor Canibe, who stated that the aim of the project
“is not only performance, but also to create healthy and safe swimming pools,”
and thanked Salou for “its commitment to sport and sustainable tourism,”
further emphasising that “this same technology is used by elite national athletes.”
The implementation of nagi smartpool is part of the Salou Smart Tourist project, an initiative aimed at the digital transformation of the municipality and its positioning as a smart tourism destination, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and the improvement of public services.
